Why Doesn’t Huffington Post Have Asian Voices And Do We Asian Americans Even Care? 31

Half the fun of buying fashionable clothes is showing them off. The other half is selling it back for a reasonable price after the clothes are no longer fresh off the runway.
At Material Wrld money-savvy fashionistas can enjoy the best of both worlds.
Founded by Jie Zheng and Rie Yano, who met at Harvard Business School, Material Wrld is a visually focused way to show off, catalog, buy and sell clothing and accessories. The mission of the company Is “to create the most personalized shopping experience to revolutionize the way fashion enthusiasts shop and sell fashion,” according to the Material Wrld website.
As a member of the site, you can peek into the closets of other members from around the world to keep up with the latest trends. And with a Pinterest-like interface, you can add likes and comments – fostering the creation of a fashion-forward online community. At the moment, members must login through Facebook or Twitter accounts.
But Material Wrld also picks up where Pinterest seems to leave off, making it easier to also list and sell items from your closet. Rather than linking out to brand sites, Material Wrld allows you to sell and buy items directly from members’ closets. It’s a new way to raid your potential new best friend’s closet. At the moment, only U.S. residents can participate in selling, but international members can still showcase items from their closets.
All users have to do is submit a photo of the item they wish to sell and select a shipping method. When the item is purchased, Material Wrld takes a 15% transaction fee and notifies you via email. Buyers who make a purchase via the Material Wrld site also get to save the item to their profile to both show it off and re-list it for sale. Material Wrld handles crediting your account, and once you have a minimum of $25, you can cash out by requesting a check, though you may just end up re-allocating those funds to future purchases while you fortify your own closet.
