Foxconn: iPhone 5 - "Hardest Device They Ever Produced"

Apple’s iPhone 5 has been out for about a month now at a variety of territories and breaking first weekend records with five million sold. Foxconn from Taiwan has made some remarks about working with the device recently saying that it is the most difficult device they ever produced. One unnamed executive from the company has also mentioned how complicated the design was the make the phone lighter and thinner than previous iterations. Productivity levels have also been low since the initial batch of iPhones on the first week or two of release, which explains the lack of supply for retailers lately. Despite the remarks, the folks at Foxconn are getting better at producing the iPhone 5s with ease since they had to take some time to get accustomed to a new device.

Foxconn’s comments about the iPhone 5 is not the only thing that made headlines for them this week. Their factory at Yantai has admitted of employing interns at a very young age, 14 to be exact, to work. This of course has breached Chinese labor laws since the minimum working age there is 16. This specific Yantai factory does not produce any of Apple’s products like the iPhone 5, but possibly other high profile products by known companies such as Nintendo’s upcoming Wii U video game console that is coming out next month. There was a requirement for students to intern at the company before starting school for two months, but Foxconn didn’t realize they were employing underage interns till recently. Before admitting to having interns that young work at factories, they did deny the fact that they did have students before the legal working age. Apple and Foxconn’s business relationship has not been the best this year to the point Apple CEO Tim Cook made a personal appearance at one of Foxconn’s factories to see how they’re doing with production. However, it looks like Foxconn has finally got a good grasp of the iPhone 5 now despite how difficult it is to produce in time for the holiday season.
