Whenever you check your e-mail regularly, there’s always some spam that you have to delete. What most probably don’t know is where are all these spam e-mails are being sent from. There are some countries that people assume send the most spam - countries like Korea, China, and even the United States, but the #1 country is not what you think.
According to the latest Dirty Dozen report for this third quarter of 2012 by Sophos, India is the leading country with 16.1 percent, about a sixth of spam e-mails being sent compared to the rest of the world. Italy is in second place with 9.4 percent and in third place is the United States with 6.5 percent. India’s percentage of sending spam e-mails increased dramatically this year alone as they were sending 9.3 percent back in the first quarter of this year. The U.S. at that time in comparison was at 8.3 percent.
Now that India remains as the leader of spamming e-mails, Asia is also the leading continent with 48.7 percent of spam sent from. That is about half compared to rest of the world where Europe is second with 28.2 percent. Along with India’s leading percentage contributing to Asia’s spam, Saudi Arabia has 5.1 percent, Turkey has 3.8 percent, South Korea sends 3.6 percent of spam e-mails worldwide, Vietnam with 3.4 percent, and then there’s China with 3.1 percent. You would assume most of these spam from Asian countries promote Asian goods, but that is not the case. Instead, they’re just sending messages from numerous computers that are infected with malware that are mostly from India. In other words, folks from India that have computers don’t really protect them from malware compared to the rest of the world. Unless that changes, India will still remain the leading country that sends spam worldwide. Are you surprised that India is the “king of spam?” Let us know in the comments below.
