Why Doesn’t Huffington Post Have Asian Voices And Do We Asian Americans Even Care? 31

You work eight hours a day and have a hefty commute. You want to learn Chinese because, let’s face it, it’s the language of tomorrow, but you have no time. As the saying goes these days, “There’s an app for that.”
ChinesePod, founded in September 2005, makes learning Chinese more flexible with its web and mobile technologies designed to fit your schedule and your busy life. The company offers two products: subscriptions to the ChinesePod lesson library and all the study tools, and classes involving 20-minute one-on-one daily tutoring sessions. Through the ChinesePod mobile app for iOS and Android devices, students who subscribe to the service can listen to the lectures during their commute, study lessons on their lunch break, and then review the day’s vocabulary on the way home.
“We believe that adults learn best when they have relevant and engaging input, personalized review tools and speaking practice that are delivered to them at their own pace and convenience,” the ChinesePod website reads. Founded on the principles of natural dialogue and communication, the usage of words and patterns, and learning through a network, ChinesePod’s method emphasizes learning through a multiplatform approach. Students can access the lessons on-demand through their mobile devices or on their computers and can reinforce the material with a teacher in class or on Skype.
ChinesePod currently offers over 2600 lessons for students of all learning levels. From business to daily life and food, the lessons cover a range of topics that a person traveling to China may encounter. Academic and professional packages are also available for groups who wish to learn the language.
While the subscriptions are fairly pricey, they’re significantly less expensive than other language learning services, like Rosetta Stone. Plus, ChinesePod takes you learning mobile and can deliver fresh content over time. Still, it’s definitely a more guided approach. If you’d like to take learning completely into your own hands, you can still check out FluentFlix, which offers a free service to help you learn Chinese.
