Why Doesn’t Huffington Post Have Asian Voices And Do We Asian Americans Even Care? 31

Recently our writer Jeffrey Dy wrote about the phenomenon known as “Gangnam Style” by PSY. Well the phenomenon is alive and well as PSY’s U.S. media tour continued Saturday, with an appearance on Saturday Night Live. In the SNL skit, the South Korean viral video celebrity performed in a shopping mall store, to help cheer up employees.
Park Jae Sung, aka PSY, has taken the Youtube world by storm with his hip, pop and tuned music video “Gangnam Style.” Though the lyrics are mainly in Korean, Americans have taken to the video with millions of views, downloads and now part of SNL culture.
PSY also made appearances on the Today Show and Ellen. Below is a video of his Today Show appearance and a video from YouTube Fuse channel on his SNL skit.
With the success of Gangnam Style, one would expect remixes or spins to this popular song. And as you may expect, one already has. Michael Simmons decided to combine two of the most viral songs this year with his mash up of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” with PSY’s “Gangnam Style.”
Do you think PSY’s Gangnam Style has reached its peak? Or do you think it will continue to soar in popularity?
