Why Doesn’t Huffington Post Have Asian Voices And Do We Asian Americans Even Care? 31

For fashionistas who love to swap stylish clothes and accessories, ALICE&LOVE is the new online shopping community for you.
Launched this past July, ALICE&LOVE is a shopping community that lets members exchange “gently-used brand-name fashion items uploaded from members all across America,” according to the company’s press release. The goal is to transform “clothes gone-by” into “coveted finds,” the website reads.
Membership is free, and all exchanges are conducted in the ALICE&LOVE official currency of “teacups,” a reference to Alice in Wonderland. Using a credit card, members can buy teacups at an exchange rate of 10 teacups for one dollar, though members cannot redeem their teacups for real money. Members can also earn free teacups for listing items or referring friends via Facebook or Twitter. ALICE&LOVE members can potentially revamp their entire closets for free.
Unlike other consumer-to-consumer exchange websites, ALICE&LOVE does not charge membership fees, listing fees, transaction fees or hidden marketplace fees. “Teacups allow our community to be comprised of only fashion-lovers who want to share their closet, and not resellers looking for a profit,” according to a press release. And since transactions are conducted in teacups, they are fast and seamless, the ALICE&LOVE team writes.
Within 24 hours of site’s launch in public beta, ALICE&LOVE had 240 members and several transactions taking place. The site’s layout is visually driven with its Pinterest-style layout. Members can search for new items by brand, condition, user uploads or time of upload. Currently on the site are cocktail dresses, rings, faux leather jackets, designer jeans, stylish tops and pretty pumps that range in price from 75 teacups to 1000 teacups.
ALICE&LOVE is a Houston-based startup founded by Rice University students Dennis Qian (CEO), Stephen Noh (President), Sal Testa (Software Developer), Andrew Capshaw (Software Developer) and Linda Cheng (Creative Director) who were all interested in collaborative entrepreneurship.
