Why Doesn’t Huffington Post Have Asian Voices And Do We Asian Americans Even Care? 31

Indonesia has been the headlines lately with more and more companies coming in to expand their business there. Foxconn, the premier Taiwanese manufacturing company, plans to build a $1 billion factory and a tech hub bringing their investment efforts at one of Asia’s rising countries in terms of presence of technology. One million jobs are expected to come of this new project as the Indonesian government approves of what Foxconn is doing in order to improve the tech and manufacturing industries there. Out of those million jobs, at least thousands of them will be engineers and others will skilled labour. The comparison that Foxconn wants this tech hub to be is their version of Silicon Valley. That is a big goal for the Taiwanese giant, but considering they are investing huge amounts of money to such a big project with 1000 hectares of land, they are banking big on such a potential market for existing companies and startups.
Foxconn’s efforts at Indonesia are the biggest the country has had in the past year as far a giant company is concerned expanding their horizons. Some companies, however, have not had good relationships with Indonesian officials such as Google and RIM, one of the leading Blackberry makers. The same can be the case for Foxconn because the government plans to have the 1000 hectares of land for this tech hub to be outside Java even though Foxconn themselves want it in Java itself. The final location of Foxconn’s massive project is not set in stone yet, but they are still in negotiations with Indonesian officials to work things out despite some miscommunication. Despite their delayed efforts over at Brazil, Foxconn continues their focus on the Indonesian market with this multi-year project that can spyrocket the industries there especially with the amount of jobs they’re expected to create when it is done. We will see in the coming years if this ambitious investment pays off for them while they still have big things going on at Taiwan and China.
