A Better Iphone Case: The Chrono Case

iPhone owners all have to deal with the necessity of protecting their phones, and there are hundreds of cases on the market to help them do so. These cases range from cheap rubber or plastic bumpers to slick, expensive leather shields, but with each case comes either slightly decreased functionality or annoyance, with many cases either morphing the iPhone’s elegant look into something bulky and unattractive, or simply failing to offer adequate protection.

Enter the Chrono Case, a new product being developed by Mike Chan, an industrial designer who enjoys “crossing premium car and motorcycle styling into everyday products.”Designed to be the ultimate end-all-be-all of iPhone cases, the Chrono Case certainly looks the part, with sleek aluminum plating that protects the iPhone without sacrificing a simple design. The phone also includes an elastic strap in its backplate, designed to be moved up and down for item storage and easily adjustable to any hand position for more convenient texting and phone maneuvering. Finally, the Chrono Case features diagonal-moving sliders that allow for multi-tasking without dropping the phone, a port plug designed to block the iPhone’s port space from accumulating dust, and side grips similar to those on a console gamepad.

With all of these impressive features, the Chono Case looks to be the ideal purchase for an iPhone user looking for something better than cheap rubber bumpers and awkward plastic coverings. However, it still isn’t a completed product, and Mike Chan and his team are currently advertising the case through an indiegogo fundraising campaign. In order for the case to actually be put into the final stages of production and distribution, which will hopefully be in August, 10,000 dollars have to be raised before mid-July. Those who donate to the cause are all eligible to receive benefits, ranging from posters to a customized set of cases in different color combinations, so those interested in a new, better form of iPhone protection should offer up a donation and check out the Chrono Case posthaste.

Patty Keyuranggul: I think branded entertainment would be perfect for this product. It's cool and sleek, so simple product placement would speak for itself. And a story-based video is more likely to get shared than a commercial/product explanation video.

Jeremy Blum: awesome! i liked the page on facebook and will be following it in the upcoming days. i think you need to aggressively market and get anybody you know to like the page; doing so will slowly draw attention. also, posting updates about how much you've raised and how much you still need will also drive people's attention. social media can be ridiculously powerful, all it takes is for all of your friends on facebook to like the page and spread the word to people they know...and before you know it you'll have random people liking it as well and donating, which is what you want at this point. best of luck!!

Mchan: Jeremy thanks for your suggestions. I took them both! Here is the link for the Chrono Case facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/ChronoCase As for Twitter, I just started an account. Since I’m new I don’t have any followers yet, but you can follow me @macxike. I also sent a submission to advertise on twitter. Crossing my fingers and hoping they will accept!

Jeremy Blum: Hey mike, great to hear from you! Have you considered setting up a Facebook page for the Chrono Case or advertising on Twitter to build interest? It might take some effort, but I imagine that if you set up a Facebook page about the product and filled it with frequent updates and images, it would probably attract a lot of attention. You could send out invitations to the people you already know to like the page, and I bet the word would spread from there.

Mchan: I want to personally thank everyone for the wonderful comments. It really helps keep me motivated to know people appreciate my work. Regarding the project, the momentum was great the first few days, but it has slowed down a lot… I definitely need more help getting the word out to help get funded. The sooner I reach my goal, the sooner I can continue with production. And I can’t wait to get the Chrono Case into everyone’s hand! Thanks again for all your support.

Noor Ramay: Oh nice! I am OBSESSED with phone covers, but the rubber ones stretch out and the hard covers always break...this looks amazing, and to be able to store your headphones in the back!! I seriously lose my headphones everyday. Very convenient and good looking phone cover.

Peter Shen: I'm not a case fan. I don't have one. But talk about a sexy looking case that is functional too!
